5 Filipino Chefs/Bakers And Their Family Food Memories
Dear Foodie Fam,
I asked five Northern California Filipino culinary artists:
What is your fondest memory of making Filipino food for others or of someone making Filipino food for you?

My fondest family-related food memories revolve around my Lola and her cooking anything and everything for us, especially Champorado. Growing up, I watched her cook and feed myself and my cousins. It brings back so many memories of all the time spent as a big family.

I love cooking, it relaxes me. So, I think there’s no one favorite memory I have of making food. Every time I cook and I see people smile because they’ve enjoyed my cooking are all fond memories.

Growing up our family parties were potlucks. So me and my dad would make Sisig for every party, and we were expected to bring this dish every time. I enjoyed the times helping my dad marinate, grill, and chop the sisig. Without this, I wouldn’t be where I am today! I'm truly blessed to share these moments with my dad and family members.

My fondest family food memory is mom making sinigang, bistek, or humba then casually dropping a photo on text without an actual formal invite to lure us home for a family dinner.

Owner/Chef. Vacaville.
My fondest family food memories are when my grandmother would cook ginisang munggo. I would request she separate a bowl of cooked/tenderized munggo before she sauté the munggo and stir in milk, sugar and ice. It is simply satisfying and I consider it my personal comfort food.
