BLOGGER LIFE: The View

Dear Foodie Fam,

I've gotten a lot of compliments about my Santorini pictures from you, foodie family. Though that food was delicious, it was mostly the effect of the caldera view that really got people.

I've mentioned dreaming of Santorini while (job 1) changing baby diapers only to run to (job 2) cleaning the urine of grown men off bathroom walls.

Here's a 2nd story: In art school, my illustration teacher had us create hypothetical travel posters for our dream vacation spots. I poured my heart into my Santorini poster like I was designing the very scenery I'd inhabit, someday.

Yea, I worked pretty hard to be there enjoying the view. But when I got there, I  didn't really remember all the hard work and all I could think of is: No matter the build up to this, I may never see this view again and I better damn well be grateful for it.

I'm not here to say "omg Santorini- if you want something, work hard enough and you can own it!"

  • TRUTH 1: I have loved ones who (for medical reasons) are barred from ever traveling to where I stood.

  • TRUTH 2: There are people who can never, ever be exactly where you are, right now.. .where you stand... with your view.

My current view RIGHT NOW: Dutch! Snoring sprawled on our living room sofa with the fur babies. That's a view I obviously don't think you care to see...  and honestly not one I'd share just out of pure, lovestruck greed. But it's a view I work very hard to keep and I'm well aware I won't always have and better damn well enjoy.

FOODIE FAM: no matter where you are right now, I hope you are inhaling the shit out of it. I hope you are taking it with extreme humility and mindfulness.

No one was promised the view YOU have right now, no matter how hard you worked for it... and you weren't either, were you?

Someone might be envious of your view, right now... and that person might be your future self.
