SAC EATS: Boy's Baked Fika and Things

Dear Foodie Fam,

What the FIKA? Thanks to our friend Joe, we decided to FIKA 'round with some friends!
Fika is a Swedish tradition. It’s halting life midday to connect with YOUR foodie fam over coffee and pastries.⠀
These FIKA buns were made lovingly by our friend Joe (Instagram: @Joeboybakes). He usually makes them with lotsa love for his own wifey but recently decided to share them with the world!! 😍 Joe rolls lightly sweet dough into tender, rose-shaped GORGEOUS AF buns you can peel or bite into. Some are infused with different flavors!⠀

He has 6 different flavors:

  • DONUT: like a glazed donut with sprinkles!⠀

  • CHOCOLAD: (Swedish for "Chocolate") decadent, chocolate goodness! Chocolate chips in the folds! Dutch's fave!

  • KANDEL: Cinnamon! Like a lightly sweet cinnamon roll with little crunchy sweet bits on top! And it's not super sticky and messy like a cinnamon roll! Cinnamon paste in the folds!

  • UBE MACAPUNO: Joe is part pinoy and knew to put in yummy bits of macapuno!

  • PISTAGE: This is my favorite one. It's got a light but very pistachio sweetness.

  • ALMOND: My second favorite. That almond sweetness is so classic and the powdered sugar on top makes it that much better.

Friends are as important as food when it comes to Fika! My ate (“older female relative" in (Tagalog/Filipino) Judith invited Dutch and I to an Insta-meet to over Joe's great buns, who I also met on Instagram. I got to meet some wonderful local foodies.
Grab these buns at the Sacramento Scandinavian Festival on April 21st at the Scottish Rite Masonic Center in Sac while you visit the Viking reenactors! Don't grab the vikings' buns, though...⠀
