SAC EVENTS: Paint Nite Sacramento

Pretty Much My Favorite Things

Instructor Beth Bates talks about the “large” brush our group named “Big Daddy” while I finish my Waterwheel roll at Oshima Sushi,

Me going “rogue”. I was painting mine to match the paintings in my home.

Dear Foodie Fam,

I am a visual artist but the time I get to paint has been rare since investing virtually all my free time in food blogging.

… So it was a no brainer to accept the invite extended to me by Paint Nite- Sacramento

Paint Nite is the OG creative night. It’s these simple things:

  1. Meet a fun instructor and other guests at a restaurant (you can go with a friend or a group, too).

  2. Follow a fun, simple walk through of painting a given image.

  3. Jam to great music.

  4. Enjoy drinks and food you can order from the restaurant venue.

Given I love eating, painting and being with people I care about (while blasting fun music), this is definitely my kind of night. What’s even cooler is I got to reconnect with my best friend. Aside from owning a ton of my paintings, she’s been my great friend since high school and literally saved my life! We’ve lived next door to each other for five years… and yet we are both so busy we barely see each other! This was so much fun to do together.

Acrylic paint, two brushes, an easel and a canvas are used in this event. You keep the painting!

Even as someone who paints, I expected following a live tutorial to be intimidating. It was far from that. There wasn’t any stuffy attitude about it.

Instructors are fun. They’re wonderful at breaking down technique while encouraging individual style. There’s lots of aids to make sure a carefree vibe is fully maintained. I don’t think anyone felt awkward at all.

You don’t need to use your brushes, paint and canvas to make the painting being walked through. The pressure is not on making something that looks just like the tutorial- it’s just to have fun! For me, it was very much like feeling like a kid again- making art to express and not to impress… except you get to order food and drinks and bond with friends over it all!

I went to a Paint Nite event held at Oshima Sushi- a cute Sushi and Fugu lounge in Natomas that has a special sushi roll menu I wish I could’ve explored more! I really liked the Waterwheel.

You don’t even need to paint exactly what you’re being walked through.

I did a few Instagram LIVEs and will be uploading a Facebook video, soon. if you like art and food, I highly suggest this event. Bring someone you love!

IF YOU LIKE ART AND FOOD, I DEFINITELY SUGGEST YOU GO!
