Dear Foodie Fam,
Here is PART 2 of my requested “look” tips. The PART 1 was about makeup. But this is the part I value most… beauty!
Here’s my favorite beauty practices to take care of my skin and hair.
BEAUTY
FACIAL REGIMEN
I’m mostly inspired by the Korean multistep skincare regimens. I give my skin what it needs that day. However, there’s stuff I do on the regular, too.
MORNING
Gentle Wash: Neutrogena: Oil Free Acne Wash: Been using this since college.
Moisturize: St. Ive’s Renewing Collagen Elastin Moisturizer: Been using this for a couple years… my easily drying skin LOVES it.
NIGHT
Remove makeup (if necessary): Neutrogena: Deep Clean® Oil-Free Makeup Remover Cleansing Wipes: Great for travel because I just use one sheet and some moisturizer, after.
Wash again: Neutrogena Face Wash, again
Wash a second time: Knossos Black Volcanic Olive Oil Soap, with Bentonite Clay: I first picked this up out of curiousity in Greece because I ran out of Neutrogena wash. My skin has never felt so perfect- so clear, so supple- as the days I use this soap.
If my skin needs extra love: Skinfood’s Black Sugar Perfect First Serum 2x Essential: makes my skin feel extra clean and look extra clear.
Moisturize with St. Ive’s. Add a drop of my favorite-all-time-skin-product Innisfree’s Soybean Energy Oil… And! If I put my face through a lot of cold/scrubbing- apply Innisfree Youth-Enriched Cream with Orchid all over face and neck instead of St. Ive’s (my skin feel firmer and stronger- the way I like it to feel after I’ve put it through a lot.)
Lips: Burt’s Bees Overnight Intensive Lip treatment My lips naturally chap if I miss a day of any lip treatment. I use to use Vaseline because no other lip balms worked. This one is affordable and works perfectly for me. I use it before lipstick, too. Dutch has worse chapping lips than I do and he loves this, too.
Spot Treat:
Cystic Acne: Mario Badescu Drying Cream: this is a miracle for me. Cystic acne gone in 3 days to less than a week. An investment, so I stock up on sales.
Pimples: Mario Badescu Drying Lotion: this makes my zits go in as little as 24 hours and as long as a week. An investment, so I stock up on sales.
Twice, every week
Black Sugar Mask Wash Off: Korean cult favorite that I finally tried and fell in love with. Smells great, gently scrubs anything I’ve dried out with Mario B products. Doesn’t dry out my skin. Once a week, I do the whole face. Another time that week, I spot treat.
Weekly
I Dew Care: Pure to the Pore: I feel cleaner, refreshed and clearer almost immediately after using this. I feel more refined with this so I use it after Black Sugar Mask Wash Off. I LOVE volcanic ash and sometimes charcoal is good for my skin, too.
Every other week
Aztec Secret: Indian Healing Clay: This is great for cleansing but dries out my skin. I only use it once a month.
HAIR
I have easily damaged hair. Been frail since high school. It gets too dry right after showering and greases up after a day. Always wanted long hair but it looked really damaged until I found this balance:
DAILY
Remove grease and refresh: Not Your Mother’s Clean Freak Unscented Dry Shampoo: on greasy hair (amount varies.) It’s also ridiculously affordable.
Comb: Tangle Teezer Thick and Curly brush: I’ve never been able to perfect smooth, healthy, detangled hair until this miracle brush.
EVERY 3 DAYS
Wash: RedKen All Soft: shampoo and conditioner. An investment, so I stock up on sales.
Leave-In:
Skinfood Argan Oil Repair Plus Heat Serum In Oil: I don’t leave this in as instructed- that gets my hair too oily and my skin breaks out…I leave this in for 5 minutes and wash back out. Since I refuse to take anything but warm showers and warm showers dry out skin and hair badly, this brings back all the moisture, softness and movement I need.
It’s a 10 Miracle Leave-In Conditioner Spray Prod: for taming frizz. Important: USE SPARINGLY! An investment, so I stock up on sales.
Redken One United : A MIRACLE for all my hair problems and smells great. My grandma loves it, too. An investment, so I stock up on sales.
Style:
Living Proof’s Perfect hair Day™ Body Builder: Sparingly… it’s strongly scented and leaves a bit of residue/stickiness.
OTHER:
Toothpaste and Mouthwash: Crest 3D White
Bodywash: Vitabath’s Pomegranate Bellini Blush: My skin has never been softer than when I use this.
Lotion: Nope! Johnson and Johnson’s Baby Oil: Shea & Cocoa Butter: this is the only thing that retains my moisture… ever…
Hand lotion: Neutrogena Norwegian Formula Moisturizing Hand Cream: a little goes a long way… and it keeps you moisturized all day.
So that’s me! I hope this helps. I’m not a beauty influencer but I’ve tried lots of stuff!
Let me know what kind of skin you have and what works for you, too!
